First Baptist Ministries

Preschool and Children's Ministry First Baptist Church has a long tradition of valuing children. We want our children to experience and hear about God's loving grace. On Sunday mornings, our preschoolers are grouped together  by mobility skills  up to age two. They are then moved to graded classes. Child care is provided during the worship services for infants through age five.

Children in grades 1-5 have grade level Sunday School departments where Bible study and related activities are the norm.

In addition to Sunday morning activities, Centerpoint  on Wednesday evenings, has a full range of activities for all children including choirs, GA, RA and Mission Friends. See the Worship Opportunities page for schedule details.

Youth and College Ministry The Youth Ministry has the task of ministering to and developing young people and their families in their Christian journey.

The College Ministry has the task of ministering to those college students who have come to Raleigh to study as well as those college students who have left the area to attend school.

Our Sunday School's task is to teach the Bible using creative methods to show its application  to the lives of the youth and college students. Wednesday Family Night also provides fellowship, choir, and mission opportunities.

In addition to the Sunday and Wednesday activities, other activities include fellowships, retreats, and many camping and missions trips.

Single Adults Ministry Single Adults at First Baptist Church are important  to the life of the Church. You will find single adults participating  in every area of FBC community life-as deacons, choir members, leaders of committees and commissions, and teachers.

The Single Adult program is centered around three Sunday School classes based on age. Each class calendars its own events such as retreats, Mission activities, Bible Study, and social gatherings.

Senior Adult Ministry First Baptist has a very active Senior Adult Ministry. The "Thirty-niners" meet on a regular basis for programs of interest and to enjoy meals together. Other activities include annual retreats and frequent day trips.
Social Ministries Being a downtown church, First Baptist is a mission - minded congregation. FBC's Clothing Ministry serves over 800 poor and homeless persons each month. Other ministries we support include Hope Builders, Meals on Wheels, Raleigh Overflow Shelter, the Ark Shelter, the Raleigh Rescue Mission, Emmaus and Epiphany Houses, Urban Ministries, and several others. We have an active ministry with HIV/AIDS patients and their families which is coordinated with the Triangle Regional Aids Network.

Through our Woman's Missionary Union, Baptist Men's Organization, and the Commission on Social Ministries, FBC has a constant flow of speakers representing mission work at the local, state, national, and international level.

Fellowship Opportunities Churchwide fellowship activities are planned for all members of First Baptist Church. In addition to banquets in the fall and winter, First Baptist holds Dinner on the Grounds and an annual 4th of July picnic at Meredith College.
Childcare Programs First Baptist is home to the Infant-Toddler Center. The center is a licensed day care center which provides full-time care of infants through two-years-old. For information, call the ITC office at (919) 832-4650.

First Baptist also operates a Weekday Preschool program during the school year. Classes are provided for children ages 1-4.

Music Ministry First Baptist's  Music Ministry offers a variety of musical activities for all age groups. Choirs range in age from preschool to adult. Special programs throughout the year showcase the musical talents of these groups. In addition to the choral program, FBC offers a choir chime experience for older children and two adult handbell choirs.
Japanese Ministry First Baptist Church sponsors a mission church for Japanese-speaking persons in the Raleigh area. A full-time Japanese pastor, Reverend Shigeyuki Yokoi, leads this congregation in weekly worship and weekday Bible studies. The congregation meets currently in the First Baptist facilities and welcomes inquiries about their welcoming fellowship.
