Weekly Activities

Students in grades 6-12 meet on Sunday mornings and afternoons and Wednesday nights.

Sunday Mornings:

9:45 - Sunday school

11:00 - Worship

Our Sunday School is split by grade and scripture-driven.  Youth study one book of the Bible at a time, covering the text as fully as possible.  There is no separate youth worship at First Baptist; the 11:00 service is for all ages.

Sunday Nights:

4:00 - Youth Handbells

5:00 - Middle school youth group/High school choir

6:00 - Supper

6:30 - High school youth group/Middle school choir

7:30 - End

Youth participate in handbells and choir during the school year, through which they perform at church and at a choir festival in Myrtle Beach. Youth group on Sunday nights is a year-round activity and consists of open discussion and fellowship, including games and spiritual development.

Wednesday Nights:

5:00 - Family Night Supper

5:45 - Backpack Buddies

6:15 - Middle school missions/High school Bible study

The Wednesday night youth program consists primarily of working with local mission organizations. In the past, our projects have included stocking shelves at the food bank and Urban Ministries, visiting homebound members, sorting clothes in our clothing ministry and preparing bags for the Wake County Backpack Buddies program.  Our high schoolers alternate between service projects and a Bible study on Wednesday nights.  Wednesday night activities take place during the traditional school year.

Annual Activities

In addition to regular weekly activities, youth have special events regularly.  These include:

  • Middle school retreat (typically in the fall)
  • Winter ski trip
  • High school retreat (typically in the spring)
  • Choir retreat (typically in the spring)
  • Lock-ins (typically both semesters)

In the summer, we take the following trips, in addition to numerous day trips and special activities:

  • Middle school mission trip
  • High school mission trip
  • Summer high school beach week
  • HS Senior trip
  • Summer rafting trip

Our mission trips emphasize serving others and learning about cultures and communities different from our own.  They typically have an emphasis on rural poverty, urban poverty, or disaster relief.  Past trip destinations have included the Appalachian Mountains; Birmingham, AL; Gulfport, MS; New Orleans, LA; New York; and Philadelphia.
